Hey readers, I know I know its been awhile...things get out of hand when we don't mind our business....we get focused on this, that and the other....sometimes focusing on how another is functioning or how well they do. Sometimes focusing on everyone else's business de-rails you, instead of pushing you ahead! Now I'm a competitive person so I like to see where everyone else is. I like to see that I need to push the accelerator down a bit more. However....check yourself before you wreck yourself....see the following points to and evaluate how you are doing.

  • Take a step back, and start looking at the direction many people take with reading social media (facebook, twitter, watching youtube, or even shooting out mass emails)- its easy to get too involved in other people's business! People love to know what the "Jones'" are doing.
  • We are filled with voyeurism! Reality Show, Gossip Mags, and yes- social media! It's our version of local celebrities as well as knowing how the "Jones'" live.
  • Have you ever gotten stuck into the vicious cycle of surfing YouTube? Stuck in the mass photo gallery of someone you don't even know?

When it comes to business, work, or family functions we can easily get sucked into this voyeuristic tunnel.

The question becomes how does one overcome, focus, and drive on, no real hard and firm answer...but a simple choice, of doing important things first. If that list goes, God, Family, Business like mine, then it should be rather simple. Right? Well maybe not because the moment we start forward with the decsion we find something else out....we start searching for the easy way, or searching to see how someone else does it. Or let me try this techniques cause I know "so and so" does it like this, and when that doesn't work after a couple weeks, let's try what "sue and sue" does. How about just being YOU, and developing your own gameplan? Put yourself into it first, then tweak it to adjust for the most efficient way to manage your daily tasks, your work, your business, your life. Whats right for you probably isn't right for others, and vice versa.

Now here is a crack on even me, remember I said, I'm competitive, I like to see my competition, know them and then ensure that they stay WAY BEHIND ME! However...you might think that focusing on the competition is good business, but it can be distracting. Even if they're in your rear view mirror, you ought to spend more time looking ahead than behind. Focusing on the tasks that will make the most difference in your life....tie this all back to the beginning...floating Facebook, floating Twitter feeds, YouTube videos....sure there is a time to do all that, but what is in your heart? What is the center of your life, business, and work?

So take your focus off of everyone else's business, and put it back onto your own dreams and aspirations. Dig deeper than you have ever before, Carpe Diem. You can have what you desire in this life, if you give enough meaningful service to others.

Ask yourself:
1. Is my first action steps of my "work day" actually move MY faith, family, and business further?
2. Do I find that time passes fast and I haven't accomplished 1 step on my to-do list? (Most struggle with this.)
3. At the end of each day, have you completed your top 3 HIGH priority items on your task list for the day? (Did you even create a TODO list? How do you know whats important if you didn't create the list? Software like SPRINGPAD, or ASTRID TASK Manager, most email manager programs(Outlook, Thunderbird).

Stick to the basic plan of action, that is set for movement in your faith, life, and business everyday. Doing so will help you to achieve a flow in all those aspects, that will help you to not feel bogged down and ineffective.

There’s nothing wrong with an occasional glance over the other side of the fence as it were but don’t let it become an obsession, the entire rest of the world, you have a desire to be successful so let's do what the successful are doing. No excuses....just do it until the job gets done, then you can take another look at the competition...but for now..Be decisive, be proactive and let your competitors worry about you.
